Medical Physiology Lecture & Lab Course Overview

  • PHSL 1010 is a four-credit lecture/lab online medical physiology course. In this course, you will be introduced to core concepts that shape our knowledge of the workings of the human body. Cell-cell communication and membrane dynamics will first be studied as central themes that govern coordination in individual cells and tissues, and within and between organ systems. You will learn to address problems in physiology, and to apply their knowledge and new understandings to case studies similar to those they may encounter in clinical settings.

*This course is considered an upper level undergraduate course (300 level or above).

Medical Physiology Lecture & Lab Course Outcomes

  • Apply the concepts of cell-cell communication and control of complex systems in laboratories, discussions, journal clubs, and assignments
  • Explain the basic components of systems physiology, particularly those associated with the neuromuscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and endocrine structure and function.
  • Apply the components of cellular and systems physiology to case studies in endocrine control and to complex problems such as exercise and environmental physiology.
  • Contribute to a learning community that will create and explore original applications of physiological concepts in discussions, journal clubs, and Lesson Plans.

Medical Physiology Lecture & Lab Course Prerequisites

  • One semester of college-level biology (BIOL 1010)
  • One semester of college-level anatomy (ANAT 1005)

    * Please note these prerequisites are highly suggested and support course preparedness and success. We recommend having completed the listed prerequisites before enrolling and within the past seven years.

How do exams work?

All exams are taken online. Major exams are required to be proctored online through ProctorU. For instructions on how to take your exams online, visit UNE Online’s ProctorU site. Please note exams must also be proctored with the UNE-approved external webcam.
