Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) Annual Conference

Applied Nutrition Program Manager Ellie Dodge, Ph.D., and Senior Marketing Manager Victoria Hartig of UNE Online, attended the annual Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) conference in San Diego, CA this year. In addition to being available to meet potential new students and faculty at our booth in the exhibit hall, they also represented the University of New England in the national conversation on nutrition.

Lively Discussion

UNE participated in an interactive, hour-long ‘Dialogue Now’ session, presented to a group nutrition professionals representative of the diversity of the SNEB membership. The session consisted of an overview of UNE’s new Master of Science in Applied Nutrition program and incorporated a lively discussion around UNE’s strategies and experiences in designing and launching a new program. The session also allowed time for the audience to provide the UNE team with comments, insights and industry-specific feedback, as well as their perceptions of potential Master of Science in Applied Nutrition student populations.

Specialized focus areas

Dr. Dodge is a long-time SNEB Annual Conference attendee, and has been an active member of SNEB for the last seven years, volunteering as an abstract editor for the annual conference, and most recently on the Membership Committee. She is currently a member of four SNEB divisions:

• Higher Education Division
• Sustainable Food Systems Division
• Communications Division
• Nutrition Education with Industry Division

Being a member of a division is a valuable way to interact with other members of SNEB that share interest in a specialized area; divisions promote networking and educational opportunities, the option to be involved in a variety of society activities and annual conference sessions, and to share insights and research with their peers and colleagues. SNEB has 10 divisions that members may participate in, with one division membership included free of charge with each SNEB membership. A broad audience

The University of New England participants found the SNEB Annual Conference to be a positive and valuable experience. They were able to meet and network with a diverse population of nutrition professionals whose work takes place in colleges, universities, schools, government agencies, cooperative extensions, communications and public relations firms, the food industry, service organizations, and many more settings. The University of New England MS in Applied Nutrition program is thankful for all of the great work that SNEB and its members and volunteers do, and look forward to attending the conference next year!

Moving Forward

UNE Online is launching our first MS in Applied Nutrition cohort this Fall, and we’re seeing great response from the new students. In fact, our enrollments are up 50% over what we initially anticipated!
