UNE Online Presents & Exhibits at SNEB 2018 Conference

The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) hosted its 51st Annual Conference in Minneapolis this July, where UNE Online was welcomed to present and exhibit. This year’s event theme, Optimizing Impact: Supporting Food Systems with Nutrition Education, attracted SNEB’s professional members, national educators, and nutrition students eager to showcase their current work while learning about the future of nutrition.

The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) represents the unique professional interests of nutrition educators worldwide. SNEB is dedicated to promoting effective nutrition education and healthy behavior through research, policy, and practice, and has a vision of healthy communities, food systems, and behaviors. Their work takes place in colleges, universities, and other schools, government agencies, cooperative extension, communications and public relations firms, the food industry, voluntary and service organizations, and with other reliable places of nutrition and health education information.

Minneapolis for SNEB 2018Minneapolis hosted the 51st Annual SNEB Conference and provided a beautiful backdrop for the event, which was filled with presentations and exhibits. The UNE Online Applied Nutrition program was eager to meet new faces and make new connections with industry peers. This year’s event hosted over 600 nutrition professionals and around 100 students from across the country. SNEB made sure to provide endless opportunities to learn more about relevant food practices, particularly those relating to sustainable food systems. This four-day event offered expert presentations, professional networking, peer group sessions, and over 150 poster abstracts highlighting student-conducted studies.

Feature Topics & Highlights

Through the latest research and poster abstracts presented at SNEB 2018, attendees were able to gain a better understanding on cooking, sustainable gardening, family and food services, and nutrition education programming. Additionally, other key presentations of the conference programming featured:

One of the presenters included the UNE Online Applied Nutrition program director, Ellie Dodge. She first spoke on how best to use social media as a student engagement tool, and was then joined by Angelina M. Maia, PhD, RD. Together, they touched on how UNE Online uses innovative capabilities to excite students and stay ahead of nutrition trend research. They discussed UNE’s digital repository, also known as DUNE, and the outward-facing ePortfolio model built into the Applied Nutrition program as examples of how UNE Online engages with each student.

As an exhibitor and presenter at the SNEB conference, the UNE Online M.S. in Applied Nutrition program joined fellow nutrition educators to discover the most recent research and developments in the nutrition field. Through these connections and sessions, we’re able to maintain our position as a leader in the industry.
