Meet Our Team: Lynn Keating

Lynn Keating Enrollment Counselor‘Meet our Team’ spotlights are just one way we like to share a little bit about the people who are dedicated to UNE Online’s signature student-centric experience.

What do you do here at UNE Online?

I am an enrollment counselor for CGPS. I was hired in November 2020, and have been helping potential Social Work students complete their applications.

What stands out to you in the Social Work program that you work within?

The Social Work program is filled with faculty and staff that are very personable, highly interactive, and immensely caring. The department’s goal is to help students succeed and get their MSW.

The program might be 100% online, but it’s definitely a wonderful community making it feel like it’s in person!

What’s your favorite part about being an Enrollment Counselor?

One of my favorite parts of being an Enrollment Counselor is working behind the scenes so that the application process is as easy as possible for students.

Going to grad school is overwhelming in itself, so I am happy to help in any way and support students from various backgrounds and experiences to ease the natural worries that come with going back to school.

As an Enrollment Counselor, what is the biggest mistake you see applicants make during the application process?

I would say the biggest mistake I’ve seen is when students use references that are peers. For grad school, it’s important to use professional references because we need to see how you’d cooperate in a professional setting and face challenges in the classroom/work.

If you could narrow down your top three favorite hobbies what would they be?

Cooking with friends, film photography, and swimming in the ocean.

What’s the best professional advice you’ve received?

We are all lifelong learners and no one has all of the answers. I learned this in a Birding Course I took when I lived in Vermont, but it really stuck with me. Even the teacher would admit she didn’t know some of the birds we’d see, which goes to show the importance of “flocking” together and learning from each other.

Do you have a favorite book?

Becoming Supernatural: How Common People are Doing the Uncommon” – by Dr. Joe Dispenza

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Sushi all day, every day! 🍣  🥢  🍚

What advice do you have for individuals applying to one of our graduate programs or certificates?

When it comes to writing your personal statements, I recommend writing out a rough draft first in a word document. That way you can edit it and create a rough draft first. It’s important to not have any spelling mistakes in your personal statements since it’s a reflection of your proficiency!

Our students consistently name our personalized student support as one of the top reasons they graduate with their degree. To learn more about our online MSW graduate degree:
