Dr. Dan Mickool, Selected for International Interprofessional Policy Development Work GroupDr. Dan Mickool is a graduate of the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, and is currently the Director of Continuing Education, as well as a Clinical Instructor in Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy at the University of New England.

Recently, Dr. Mickool was selected to serve on The Global Confederation for Interprofessional Education & Collaborative Practice – Policy Development Work Group. Dr. Mickool is the only pharmacist in the group, and just one of five Americans among 35 international members.

The committee holds a monthly virtual meeting and is charged by the World Health Organization with the following topics in 2019:

  • Developing an information note on IPECP (interprofessional education and collaborative practice) that is aligned with existing policy statements on population health that can be used by interprofessional networks and programs around the world.
  • Updating the Framework for Action on Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (2010) World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Updating the Sydney Declaration.

The work group is expected to update these documents by December 2019 and will allow time for public comment. Of note, these policy statements are embedded in healthcare frameworks for nations across the globe (including the U.S.), academic environments, and other places of employment.

A completed framework will be presented to an international audience at the All Together Better Health Conference in Qatar in 2020. Dr. Mickool has been asked to contribute specifically to areas of collaborative practices that will benefit existing workforces and health systems.

Congratulations, Dr. Mickool!
