Meet our Team: Maria Lorello
Meet Maria Lorello, an Enrollment Counselor at UNE. Maria earned her BA in Communication from the University of Southern Maine. After college, she started her career in public relations before joining UNE’s enrollment team in 2013.
At UNE Online students are our top priority, and their success is what drives each and every one of us to do what we do. We’d like to share a little bit about the people that are dedicated to making that happen every day.
What do you do at UNE Online?
I’m an Enrollment Counselor for our Master of Social Work program. I am usually the first point of contact for someone who is interested in the MSW program. I answer any questions they may have, assist them throughout the application process and help them transition from applicant to student.
Where are you from?
I grew up right across the bridge in South Portland. I moved out of state for college and spent a little time abroad, but I always knew I wanted to end up back in Maine.
I love cookies. Ice cream too, but I would say cookies are my weakness. I usually try to avoid them because once I start, I can’t stop. The Cookie Jar in Cape Elizabeth makes these awesome raspberry filled cookies, those are my favorite.
What is the first thing you do in the morning?
I have a giant bowl of cereal. I love all cereal. I like to mix different types together and I always add a banana. It never gets old.
What’s the last lesson you learned?
You have to do what makes YOU happy. Not always as easy as it sounds.
What’s your favorite part about what you do here?
I enjoy building relationships with the applicants, and it’s great knowing you helped someone get one step closer to achieving their goals. Graduate school is a big deal, it’s an accomplishment, and I love knowing I helped someone get there.
The beach. I stick around all winter just for the summer days at the beach.
What’s your ideal Sunday?
Spending some time in the morning lounging around the house with my fiancé and our cat, Carl. Then we hit the beach (Carl would stay home and nap, he’s not really a beach cat) followed by dinner and a Casco Bay sunset cruise on our boat.
What’s on your desk?
A couple of rubber ducks, some silly putty and lip gloss. Always lip gloss.
Do you have a secret talent?
You know the claw machines where you can win stuffed animals? I always win. Even when I was a kid. It’s actually pretty impressive. But don’t try the ones with iPods, nobody can win those.
