At UNE Online students are our top priority, and their success is what drives each and every one of us to do what we do. We’d like to share a little bit about the people that are dedicated to making that happen every day.

Meet Jonathan Chavoustie: Student Support Specialist for the Health Informatics and Applied Nutrition degree programs. Jonathan joined UNE Online in March of 2017 and comes from a background of unique jobs, including retail banking, bartending, building koi ponds, and delivering phone books. Jonathan studied at several universities in the northern US and the Netherlands before earning his BA in Humanities and Philosophy from the University of Southern Maine.

What do you do at UNE Online?

I am a Student Support Specialist for the Applied Nutrition and Health Informatics programs here at UNE. I am responsible for onboarding students into their programs, and ensuring that they succeed until graduation!

Where are you from?

My family and I are originally from the “North Country” in Upstate New York, but I’ve lived all over Upstate before coming to Maine about 5 years ago.

What’s your favorite dessert?

I have a soft spot for Ghirardelli’s Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae.

What’s the latest lesson you learned?

The most recent lesson I’ve learned is to make sure your phone is not on top of your car before driving off.

What’s on your desk?

I’m pretty messy. I have an assortment of papers, hot sauces, headphones, and vessels to put various liquids in.

What’s your favorite part of what you do here?

I really enjoy helping out students. It is extremely gratifying to see a struggling student turn their situation around and succeed.

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Burritos in all of their various forms – breakfast, veggie, sushi, pho, etc.

What’s your favorite emoji?Shaka hand emoji

The shaka hand is by far my most used and favorite emoji.

What is your favorite book?

It has always been To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. A true American classic.

What is your motto?

Quality over quantity. Boom.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Maine?

Access to the mountains, good beer, and the ocean.

Do you have a secret talent?

I am double jointed and can wiggle my ears. I’m kind of a freak.

What’s your ideal Sunday?

My ideal Sunday would be waking up in a tent in some beautiful, remote place and climbing all day, surrounded by an immaculate scenery (mountains/ocean/lakes) with close friends. After a long day on the cliffs, we’d come down for some well-deserved beers and then go to a show/concert/dance until the sun rises. No need to worry about work on Monday because I took it off.
